The Lawley National Park (English: Lawley National Park ) is located east of the Mitchell River National Park in the deserted and poorly developed Kimberley region in northern Western Australia on the coast of the Indian Ocean .
The 175.72 km² national park can only be reached on foot. It can only be entered with the permission of the Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation and the Department of Parks and Wildlife . Access is usually from the aircraft runway located on the Mitchell Plateau . Visitors should have bush experiences because they have to take care of themselves. There are no paths or structures in the wilderness in the park.
The area was declared a national park in 2000.
After Rio Tinto and Alcoa returned their mountain rights over an area of 17,500 km² in the Kimberley region in 2015, political considerations arose to merge the three national parks Prince Regent National Park , Mitchell River National Park and Lawley River National Park amalgamating the great Kimberley National Park, the largest national park in Australia .
