The 33 ha small Gooseberry Hill National Park (English Gooseberry Hill National Park ) is a national park in Western Australia , Australia . It is located in Gooseberry Hill , a suburb of Perth . The park is about 16 km east of Perth and 5 km north of Kalamunda at the southern beginning of the valley of the Helena River .
An abandoned railway line, the Kalamunda Zig Zag , a branch of the Upper Darling Range Railway , ran through the park . It operated until it closed in 1949. Today the Zig Zag Scenic Route runs through the park on the original route of the railway.
Gooseberry Hill National Park is home to Statham's Quarry , a quarry that was used to quarry diabase in the first quarter of the 19th century and is a historic example of stone mining. Its rock walls are now used as a climbing garden .
The arid vegetation is home to a small bird population. Wildflowers bloom in spring. From the park, the view extends over the city of Perth to the Indian Ocean .
The park is operated by the Department of Environment and Conservation in Western Australia.
