The Stockyard Gully National Park (English: Stockyard Gully National Park ) is located 250 kilometers north of Perth , 24 kilometers west of Eneabba and 14 kilometers east of Leeman in Western Australia . The approximately 150 km² national park is characterized by several caves in the limestone .

Surname

By the mid-1900s, a route for cattle crossed the area, driven from Champion Bay near Geraldton to the cattle market in Guildford . The drovers, known as Stockman in Australia , found water and fodder for their cattle in what is now the national park. They camped for the night near the caves with the water springs. The place was called the Stockyard Gully .

The national park is overgrown with bushes and banks . Eucalyptus also grow near water holes .

In the grounds of the park there are several caves that have been washed out by an underground water flow in the deposited limestone over time through karstification . Shallow water holes have also formed in and in front of the caves. A 300 meter long cave, the Stockyard Gully Cave (also called Stockyard Tunnel ), is open to the public. The Stockyard Cave is 800 meters long and is closed to tourists for safety reasons. Some of the caves have collapsed and are no longer easily recognizable as such.

The national park can only be reached by four-wheel drive vehicles. The path is signposted from Eneabba. Camping is not allowed in the national park and you have to bring your own drinking water. There are several campsites in the wider area that are outside the park.
