The Wellington National Park (English: Wellington National Park ) borders almost immediately on Collie and is about 15 kilometers east of Bunbury in Western Australia .

The area was declared a national park in 2000.

The Collie River flows through the 174.15 km² national park . There are several reservoirs in the area of ​​the national park (from north to south: Waroona Dam , Samson Brook Dam , Loque Brook Dam , Harrey Dam , Stirling Dam , Harvis River Dam and Wellington Dam ). The drinking water reservoirs in the Collie River basin were created to supply the Wheatbelt region .

Flora and fauna

Large marri and eucalyptus trees ( Eucalyptus pilularis and Eucalyptus pilularis) grow in the national park . There are tall eucalypts along King Tree Road in Ferguson Valley , including the so-called King Tree .

117 animal species, including 112 birds, eleven mammals and 309 plant species were counted in the park. In the park live example, black-tailed Quoll ( Dasyurus geoffroii ), short-nosed bandicoot ( Isoodon obesulus ), short-tailed kangaroo ( Setonix brachyurus ), possums and brush-tailed rat kangaroos ( Bettongia penicillata ).

Swimming, canoeing and rafting can be practiced in the national park . In the river bed of the Collie River there are sometimes large, rounded granite rocks that are washed by the water and form pools that invite those looking for relaxation to swim. You can also bathe in the reservoirs and do water sports. The river also forms several gorges, such as Potters Gorge , which are suitable for rafting. There are several campsites and hiking trails such as the Mount Lennard Trail , which is located in the south of the national park. Motor vehicles are prohibited in the park away from the streets. There are several chargeable campsites.
