Bunbury, the second largest city in Western Australia, is the center of the outer Southwest Australia, the South West Region . It is located about 180 kilometers south of Perth and about 370 kilometers west of Albany near the mouth of the Collie River on Geographe Bay .
The village was founded in 1829 and promoted to town in 1979. The population is around 71,000 (2016). The climate is somewhat more temperate than that of Perth. Bunbury is connected to Perth by the South Western Railway , on which the Australind operates.
The Edith Cowan University (ECU), based in Perth, has established in Bunbury the "Bunbury Campus".
