geography
course
The river has its source at Gibbs , about ten kilometers west of Darkan on the Coalfields Highway . From there it flows west to Buckingham . There it turns its course to the northwest to the mouth of the Harris River . Then he turns south to the town of Collie . There it turns its course again to the west to the Wellington Reservoir about 15 kilometers away , whose water is important for the growing population of Western Australia, but not suitable as drinking water because of its high salt content . The aim of the Waters and Rivers Commission was to reduce the salinity of the river to 500 mg / l by 2015.
