Ikuo Sakurai

Ikuo Sakurai ( Japanese 櫻井 郁 雄 , Sakurai Ikuo ; * around 1955) is a Japanese jazz musician ( double bass ).

Ikuo Sakurai worked in the Japanese jazz scene from the 1970s; first recordings were made in 1978 with saxophonist Mabumi Yamaguchi ( Leeward ). In the 1980s was a member of the trio of Fumio Karashima , to be heard on their albums Round Midnight (1983, with Larry Coryell ), I Used to Be Alone (1984), Joy (1989) and I Love You (1991, with Masahiro Fujioka and Toshihiko Inoue ).

In addition, Sakurai also played with Takashi Furuya , Tamami Koyake , Masami Nakagawa , Hiroko Kokubu , Mari Nakamoto , Masami Nakagawa and Hidefumi Toki during this time . In the 90s he formed the Spirits Trio with Hideo Ichikawa and Masahiko Togashi (album Jazz , 1994). In the field of jazz he was involved in 21 recording sessions between 1978 and 1996, most recently with the pianist Hiroko.
