Hideo Ichikawa
Hideo Ichikawa ( Japanese 市 川 秀 男 , Ichikawa Hideo ; * February 1945 in Shizuoka Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz pianist and keyboardist .
Ichikawa played in the Tokyo jazz scene from the mid-1960s; first recordings were made in 1967 with the Akira Miyazawa Quartet ( Now's the Time ). In the following years he worked a. a. with George Ōtsuka , Hiroshi Matsumoto and Toshiaki Yokota . In 1970 he was (with Bennie Maupin and Gary Peacock ) on Jack DeJohnette's album Have You Heard? involved. In the 70s he was in record sessions with Motohiko Hino , Masabumi Kikuchi , Yoshiaki Nasuo , Kazumi Watanabe , Kiyoshi Sugimoto, Joe Henderson ( Henderson's Habiliment , 1971), Kenji Mori , Phil Woods , Jimmy Takeuchi , Takashi Mizuhashi , George Kawaguchi , Kazuhiro Matsuishi , Hiroshi Suzuki and Keiko Saijo . In 1976 he recorded his debut album Tomorrow ( Three Blind Mice ), with a trio of Isoo Fukui and Hideo Yamaki , followed by Invitation (RCA, 1976), on which Shunzo Ohno , Takao Uematsu , Takashi Mizuhashi and Hideo Sekine participated. In the field of jazz he was involved in 56 recording sessions between 1967 and 1995. a. also with Roy Haynes and Helen Merrill .
