Takao Uematsu

Takao Uematsu ( Japanese 植 松 孝 夫 , Uematsu Takao ; born April 16, 1947 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese fusion and jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , also soprano saxophone and bass clarinet ).

Live and act

Uematsu, who is self-taught, started playing the clarinet at the age of 13 before switching to the tenor saxophone. He played with Akira Ishikawa in 1965 , then with Kiyoshi Sugimoto and around 1970 with Takeshi Inomata , with his band Sound Ltd. first recordings were made.

In 1970 he recorded his album debut for the Three Blind Mice label with Takashi Imai , Sadayasu Fujii , Yoshio "Chin" Suzuki and George Otsuka ; In 1971 he presented the album Ride and Tie with saxophonist Takeru Muraoka , on which Yoshio Suzuki , Motohiko Hino and Hiromasa Suzuki had participated; In 1977 the fusion production Straight Ahead (Art Union) followed, in which Arihide Kurata , Motohiko Hamase , Tatsuji Yokoyama , Mikio Masuda and Hitoshi Okano were involved. In the 1970s he continued to work with George Otsuka, Kiyoshi Sugimoto , Sunao Wada and at Terumasa Hino Sextet, with whom he made a guest appearance at the Berlin Jazz Days in 1971 . In the 1980s and early 1990s, he worked with Shigeharu Mukai , Kazuo Yashiro , Takako Ueno , Takehiro Honda, and Maki Asakawa . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord recorded 36 recording sessions between 1970 and 1992.
