Jimmy Takeuchi

Jimmy Takeuchi ( Japanese ジ ミ ー 竹 内 , Jimī Takeuchi ; actually Wasaburō Takeuchi , Japanese 竹 内 和 三郎 , Takeuchi Wasaburō , born June 29, 1930 ; † December 29, 2009 ) was a Japanese jazz musician ( drums ) who also worked as a bandleader in the pop and light music excelled.

Takeuchi worked from the mid-1950s a. a. with Shoji Suzuki ; 1956 and 1958 was a member of the Swing Journal All-Stars . In the 1960s he played in the trio of the pianist Kazuo Yashiro , also with Masanaga Harada . From 1968 he and his band Jimmy Takeuchi & His Exciters at Toshiba presented a series of instrumental LPs such as Drum Drum Drum: Pops Best 24 and 京都 慕 情 (Reflections in a Palace Lake) , which contained cover versions of well-known pop hits of the time. Another 1971 production by Takeuchi included arrangements of popular Ventures titles (such as " Walk Don't Run ").

In 1970 Takeuchi recorded an album with Teddy Wilson ( Takeuchi & Wilson , Toshiba, with Shōji Yokouchi and Masanaga Harada ). In the 1970s he also played with Yuzuru Sera , Mari Nakamoto , Kazuo Yashiro and Hidehiko Matsumoto . During this time he played albums like Drum Drum Drum / Let's Swing !! (Toshiba (1976), with Nobuo Hara ), West Coast Jazz , Live at Birdland, Jimmy's Jazz Shop (Toshiba, 1976), Jimmy's Jazz Friends (1978) and an album with Elvis Presley numbers (1977). With fellow drummers George Kawaguchi , Donald Bailey and Shingo Okudaira , he recorded the album The Drum Battle (1977). In the field of jazz he was involved in 38 recording sessions between 1956 and 1997, most recently with Martha Miyake .
