Konosuke Saijo
Kōnosuke Saijō ( Japanese 西 条 孝 之 介 , Saijō Kōnosuke ; born December 26, 1931 in Yokohama ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , also soprano saxophone , flute ).
Live and act
Kōnosuke Saijō began his musical career in Tokyo in the 1950s; In 1956 he was a member of the all-star band of the Japanese Swing Journal , with which the first recordings were made in 1956. In the following years he worked a. a. with Hidehiko Matsumoto , Tatsuro Watanabe and Terumasa Hino . In 1959 he played two tracks with his band West Liners , which were re-released on the compilation Modern Jazz Composer's .
From the 1960s Saijō belonged to the formation Five Saxophones (1967); he also played with Norio Maeda, Shungo Sawada and Kazuo Yashiro . Under his own name he played the LPs Harlem Nocturne (1966), Massachusetts in Bossa Nova (1968, with Yasunori Suzuki , Sadanori Nakamure , Takeo Mori , Shinnosuke Katsuyama ), Resurrection (1974, with Norio Maeda , Yasuo Arakawa , Takeshi Inomata ), Incarnation (1975, with Kunihiko Sugano , Ken Suzuki , Shoichi Miyazawa , Yoichi Ogawa ) and Manhattan Show Case (1980, with Toshihiko Ogawa , Kunimitsu Inaba , Jun Shimizu ). Further recordings were made in the formation The Wind Breakers , which also included Tetsuo Fushimi , Jiro Inagaki , Tadayuki Harada , Norio Maeda, Shungo Sawada , Yasuo Arakawa, Takeshi Inomata and Donald Bailey .
Saijō also worked with Takeshi Inomata, Mari Nakamoto , Shoji Yokouchi , Jimmy Takeuchi , Eiji Kitamura , Tsuyoshi Yamamoto , Harumi Kaneko , Terry Mizushima and Ichiri Masuda . He recorded one last album, Saijoh's Serenade , around 1992 with Herbie Steward , Gene DiNovi , Dave Young (bass) and Yukio Kimura (drums). In the field of jazz he was involved in 58 recording sessions between 1956 and 1995, most recently with Norio Maeda's Wind Breakers .
