Yasuo Arakawa

Yasuo Arakawa ( Japanese 荒 川 康 男 , Arakawa Yasuo ; born June 12, 1939 in Kobe ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( double bass ).

Arakawa played in the Tokyo jazz scene from the 1960s a. a. with Toshiko Akiyoshi / Charlie Mariano and accompanied Georgie Auld ; 1966/67 he attended the Berklee School of Music . In the following years he worked a. a. with Masahiko Satoh , Akira Miyazawa , Takeshi Inomata , Shungo Sawada , Yoshiko Goto , Mal Waldron , Helen Merrill and in the formation The Third . In 1971 he was a guest at the Berlin Jazz Days with the trio of Masahiko Satoh ; This was followed by the album A Path through Haze with Attila Zoller . From the 1970s onwards, he also took part in recordings by Hozan Yamamoto , Martha Miyake , Tadao Hayashi , Hidehiko Matsumoto , Kei Marimura , Miki Matsubara , Norio Maeda and Carmen Cavallaro . Together with Norio Maeda and Takeshi Inomata, he founded the collaborative trio We 3 , which had an excellent reputation in the Japanese scene. In the field of jazz he was involved in 53 recording sessions between 1963 and 2001.
