Fernando Alejandre Martínez (* 1956 in Madrid ) is a Spanish general and was Chief of Staff of the Spanish Armed Forces from 2017 to 2020 .

Life

Fernando Alejandre Martínez was born in the Spanish capital in 1956.

Military career

Alejandre Martínez graduated from the Spanish Military Academy in 1979. In the following years he served in various posts at home and abroad.

In 2010 he was promoted to brigadier general and served at Army Headquarters. There he was responsible for planning the Spanish participation in the ISAF mission. He later served as major general in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe . As of October 16, 2015, he was Deputy Commander of the Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum . Since March 28, 2017 he was Chief of Staff of the Spanish Armed Forces, replacing Fernando García Sánchez in this position . In turn, he was replaced by Miguel Ángel Villarroya on January 14, 2020 .

During his service the general was awarded several degrees of the Spanish Military Merit Order.

Private

Fernando Alejandre is married, has three sons and has been a grandfather since 2014. The family's longstanding military tradition is maintained by his two older sons, who also serve in the Spanish armed forces.
