Fernando García Sánchez

Fernando García Sánchez (born September 25, 1953 in Granada ) is a Spanish naval officer with the rank of admiral and was Chief of the General Staff of the Spanish Armed Forces from 2011 to 2017 .

Life

García Sánchez joined the Spanish Navy in 1971 . After various tasks on land and at sea (including as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy), he was promoted to Admiral in 2011 and has been Chief of Staff of the Spanish Armed Forces since December 30 of the same year. He succeeded José Julio Rodríguez Fernández , who had held this post since 2008. Sánchez himself was replaced by Fernando Alejandre Martínez in March 2017 .

The admiral is married and has three children. In addition to his mother tongue, he is fluent in English and French.
