Akitoshi Igarashi

Akitoshi Igarashi ( Japanese 五十 嵐 明 要 , Igarashi Akitoshi ; * 1932 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( alto saxophone ).

Akitoshi Igarashi worked in the jazz scene in his hometown from the early 1950s; with Toshiko Akiyoshi and Sadao Watanabe he performed in 1954 at the Mocambo Club in Yokohama. In 1957 he made recordings with Tetsuo Hayashi , Eiji Kitamura , Akira Miyazawa , Hideki Ogiwara and Shungo Sawada ( Jazz Message from Tokyo ), in 1959 with the Modern Jazz All Stars and the New Jazz Group (LP Modern Jazz Composer's Corner ). From 1965 he played with Takeshi Inomata & His West Liners.

In the late 1960s he led his own bands such as Akitoshi Igarashi & Dreamy Sounds , with whom he presented a number of LPs, e. Sometimes in the easy listening style like Fascinating Alto-Sax . In the 1970s he played with Toshio Mori & Blue Coats, Nobuo Hara , Norio Maeda and Yuzuru Sera ( Recital: The Days of Wine and Women , 1978); He was also a member of the saxophone formation Five Saxophones , in which u. a. Shigeo Suzuki , Akira Miyazawa, Kōnosuke Saijō , Ichiro Mitsumori and Hiroshi Okazaki played. His album Sax Talk was created around 1986 (with Toshihiko Ogawa and Kunimitsu Inaba , among others ); he also played with Eiji Kitamura and Martha Miyake during this time ; The album Swing Time followed in 1988 (with Ichiro Masuda , Yoshitaka Akimitsu , Ikuo Shiozaki , Yoshinori Asami and Yoshio Nakamura ). In 2006 he presented the album Akitoshi Igarashi Meets the Yoku Tamura Trio + Tohru Konishi - Here at Last . The discographer Tom Lord lists his participation in jazz between 1954 and 2008 with 39 recording sessions.
