Eiji Kitamura
Eiji Kitamura ( Japanese 北 村 英 治 , Kitamura Eiji ; born April 8, 1929 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( clarinet ) who, in his playing, influenced by Benny Goodman and Woody Herman , primarily focuses on the musical styles of swing and mainstream jazz operated.
Live and act
Eiji Kitamura studied at the Keiō University ; from this time he worked as a jazz musician, first recordings were made in 1957 ( Jazz Message from Tokyo ). In the following years he worked in the Tokyo jazz scene a. a. with Martha Miyake and Nobuo Hara . In 1958 he was a member of the Swing Journal Critics Poll put together All-Stars-Band. From the 1950s he worked with his own swing ensembles; In 1970 he first recorded with Teddy Wilson ( Teddy Wilson Meets Eiji Kitamura , with Ichiro Masuda , Masanaga Harada , Bill Robinson); 1972 // 73 and in the early 80s followed further appearances with Wilson in Japan.
From the 1970s, Kitamura released a number of albums such as Happy Cooking (Trio, 1973), E. Kitamura Vs S. Suzuki (1976, with Shoji Suzuki , among others ), Swing Sessions (RCA, 1978), Swing Eiji ( Concord Jazz , 1981, with Fraser MacPherson , Nat Pierce , Cal Collins , Herb Ellis , Brian Torff , Jake Hanna ) and Seven Stars (Concord Jazz, 1983). In Japan he also appeared on numerous television shows; in the USA he made guest appearances at the 1977 Monterey Jazz Festival . In 1979 there was a studio encounter with John Lewis , George Duvivier and Shelly Manne ( April Date , CBS / SONY), and in the same year he also played with the Concord Jazz All Stars , who are guesting in Japan, including Warren Vaché , Scott Hamilton and Dave McKenna , Cal Collins, Phil Flanigan and Jake Hanna belonged to ( Dear Friends ). He played at a jam session in the USA in 1980 with Woody Herman , Dick Johnson , Bob Maize , Cal Tjader and Warren Vaché. In 1980 he performed in Tokyo with Harold Land ( Live at Junk , with Toshihiko Ogawa , Mitsuaki Furuno , Donald Bailey ) and in 1981 with Bob Greene .
Kitamura continued to make guest appearances in the United States in the early 1980s, again making recordings for Concord Jazz. He was also involved in recordings with Kunihiko Sugano , Kazuo Yashiro , Yuzuo Sera , Martha Miyake and in 2002 with Lars Erstrand and the Kobe International All Stars from the 1970s to the 2000s . In the field of jazz he was involved in 64 recording sessions between 1957 and 2008, most recently with the Kobe Jazz Street All Stars .
