Shinji Mori (musician)

Shinji Mori ( Japanese 守 新 治 , Mori Shinji ; born March 21, 1953 in Sendai ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( drums ).

Shinji Mori, who began playing the drums in 1961, has played on the Japanese jazz scene since the early 1970s. He was part of the quintet of Hiroshi Fukumura ( Morning Flight , 1973), from 1974 to the quartet of Isao Suzuki . With the quartet of Sadao Watanabe he made a guest appearance at the 1975 Montreux Jazz Festival ; he belonged to this group until 1977 ( Live in Nemuru ). In the following years he was with Tsuyoshi Yamamoto and with Kunihiko Sugano in the recording studio. In the early 1980s he was a member of Masaru Imada's band ( Andalusian Breeze , Tropical Sunset ); In 1980 he accompanied the formation Four Trombones (consisting of the trombonists Yoshio Oikawa , Michio Kagiwada , Hitomi Uchida , Toshinobu Iwasaki ). Since 1982 he has played with Isoo Fukui in the trio of pianist Bobby Enriquez , then with Eiji Kitamura and again with Tsuyoshi Yamamoto.

At the beginning of 1987 Mori recorded the album Sweet Pumpkin (Terashima) under his own name in a trio with Kanji Ōta (piano) and Satoshi Kosugi (double bass) . In the 2000s he was part of the trio of Yuko Ohashi (with Shinobu Satō ), to be heard on the albums Buenos Aires 1953 and Home on the Range ; he was also in the studio with Nobukazu Takemura. In the field of jazz he was involved in 17 recording sessions between 1973 and 2013. In the 2010s, Mori continued to perform with his own quartet.
