Bobby "The Wild Man" Enriquez , actually Roberto Delprado Yulo Enriquez , (born May 20, 1943 in Bacolod City , † August 6, 1996 in Stayton , Oregon , United States ) was a Filipino jazz pianist .

biography

Bobby Enriquez began as a child self-taught to play the piano and went from 1956 to 1958 in one of Coca-Cola on sponsored show. In 1960 he moved to Manila , where he soon played with Vestre Roxas and Tony Scott . In 1961 he made a guest appearance with Tito Puente in Hong Kong; he then moved to Taiwan , where he was resident pianist in the officers' club of the US base in Tainan from 1961 to 1963 . Between 1964 and 1967 he performed with his own trio in the officers' club in Okinawa . He also arranged for a Philippine revue that appeared in Las Vegas. From 1968 to 1970 he was musical director for Don Hoin Hawaii . He then moved to Las Vegas, where he performed with Danny Moore and various vocal groups. In 1973 he went to San Francisco to perform with his trio at the Miyako Hotel. From 1975 until he lived in Hawaii again to work as a soloist and with a quintet in Waikiki . In the early 1980s, tours of the United States and Europe followed with Richie Cole's band Alto Madness (1981) and with Dizzy Gillespie (1982/83). In 1982 he appeared before President Marcos ; then he had an engagement at the Tokyo Pit Inn with his trio of Rufus Reid and Billy Higgins . In 1984 he moved to New York, only to come back to the Big Apple after a short return home because of political difficulties , where he performed until the early 90s. In 1990 he performed with Richie Cole at the Toronto Jazz Festival . Since the 1970s he had recorded a number of albums for the Evidence, Portrait and GNP Crescendo labels .
