Masanaga Harada

Masanaga Harada ( Japanese 原田 政 長 , Harada Masanaga ; * around 1935) is a Japanese jazz musician (double bass).

Masanaga Harada played in the Tokyo jazz scene from the 1950s; In 1960 he was involved in Masao Yagi's album Plays Thelonious Monk , the first LP with Monk compositions outside the United States. In the 1960s he played a. a. with Toshiko Akiyoshi ( Toshiko Meets Her Old Pals , 1961), Sadao Watanabe , Yuzuru Sera , Helen Merrill and Akira Miyazawa ( Yamame , 1962); In 1967 he worked on Watanabes and Charlie Mariano's joint album Iberian Waltz ; in the same year he was a member of the Swing Journal put together all-stars band.

From this time on, Harada also worked with Norio Maeda ( Exciting Jazz Spirit , 1968), Teddy Wilson / Eiji Kitamura , Maki Asakawa , Martha Miyake and Masayuki Takayanagi ( A Jazzy Profile of Jojo , 1970). In the 1970s (with Jimmy Takeuchi ) he was a member of the Kazuo Yashiro Trio and the Shoji Yokouchi Quartet, which also included Toru Konishi and Hajime Ishimatsu . He also worked on recordings of Peanuts Hucko / Shoji Suzuki , Muneyoshi Nishiyo , Eiji Kitamura, Ichiro Masuda / Hank Jones ( The Song Is Ended , 1976). The discographer Tom Lord lists his participation in jazz from 1960 to 1976 with 73 recording sessions.
