Yoshitaka Akimitsu

Yoshitaka Akimitsu ( Japanese 秋 満 義 孝 , Akimitsu Yoshitaka ; born August 19, 1929 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz musician (piano), stylistically linked to the swing tradition.

Yoshitaka Akimitsu worked in the Japanese jazz scene from the mid-1950s; first recordings were made in 1956 with the Shoji Suzuki quintet. In the following years he played a. a. with Martha Miyake and was a member of the Swing Journal 's Critics Poll Swing Group in 1958 . After no recordings were made in the 1960s, he accompanied the singer Gigliola Cinquetti ( Gigliola Cinquetti in Giappone ) with his octet in 1972 . For many years he worked in the swing bands of Eiji Kitamura . During this time he also took part in recordings of Kohji Fujika ( Happy Session , 1978) and Mitsuru Ono ( Memories of You ); He also worked with Ray Anthony ( Deluxe Ray Anthony in Japan ).

1979 Akimitsu took in trio with Ikuo Ikezawa and Hiroshi Sunaga on the album Something to Remember You By (Audio Lab); Then he interpreted jazz numbers like " Count Every Star ", " It's Been a Long Long Time ", " It's Magic " and " Laughing on the Outside ". He also released the albums Vivre pour vivre ( Toshiba Records ), My Melancholy Baby (Toshiba, 1980) and Hello Teddy (Eastworld, 1980, with Teddy Wilson , Koji Tohyama , Eiji Kitamura , Tsuyoshi Watanabe ) under his own name .

In later years he played with Akitoshi Igarashi ( Swing Time , 1988) and with Shoji Suzuki & The Rhythm Ace. In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists him in 27 recording sessions between 1956 and 1996, most recently in a duo with the saxophonist Satoru Oda ( swing and swing, joint duo ).
