Hiroko Kokubu
Hiroko Kokubu ( Japanese 国 府 弘 子 , Kokubu Hiroko ; born August 26, 1959 in Shibuya , Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz musician (piano, composition) and television and radio presenter .
Kokubu first completed classical piano training at the Kunitachi College of Music , where she specialized in the interpretation of Chopin and Ravel , before turning to jazz. In the mid-1980s, she stayed in the United States to work as a news anchor for CNN in 1988 and 1989 and then as a radio and television presenter in Japan.
In 1984 she appeared at the New York Women's Jazz Festival with Carol Sudhalter's quartet , and in 1990 at the Jakarta Jazz Festival with her own quintet. She released her debut album in 1987. Other albums followed, often with her trio, two in a duo with guitarist Kiyotsugu Amano. In 2015 she performed with Lee Ritenour , Ivan Lins and Nathan East at Kawasaki Jazz .
