Mabumi Yamaguchi

Mabumi Yamaguchi ( Japanese 山口 真 文 , Yamaguchi Mabumi ; born September 1, 1946 in Karatsu , Saga Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz musician (tenor and soprano saxophone).

Mabumi Yamaguchi was active in the Japanese jazz scene from the late 1960s; In 1971 he played in Yōsuke Yamashita big band project Trio with Brass 12 (album Introducing Takeo Moriyama ). In the following years he worked a. a. with George Ōtsuka , Sunao Wada / Tsuyoshi Yamamoto , Hiromasa Suzuki , Motohiko Hino , Kimiko Kasai and Fumio Karashima . In 1976 Yamaguchi recorded his debut album After the Rain (Union), in a quartet and quintet line-up with Fumio Karashima, Kazumi Watanabe , Nobuyoshi Ino and George Otsuka. In 1978 the album Leeward (Union) followed, with Ichirō Doi , Ikuo Sakurai and Hideo Sekine .

During a stay in New York in 1981 , the production Mabumi was created with Kenny Kirkland , Miroslav Vitouš and Tony Williams . In the 1980s and 1990s he worked a. a. still with the formation The Players (with Hiromasa Suzuki , Tsunehide Matsuki , Akira Okazawa , Yuichi Togashiki , Bobby Thomas, Jr. ), also with Sakurako Ogyu , Shigeharu Mukai and Aoi Katō . The discographer Tom Lord lists his involvement in jazz between 1971 and 2011 in 22 recording sessions.
