The Dryandra are a genus of plants within the silver tree family (Proteaceae). Their occurrence of around 95 species is limited to the southwestern part of Western Australia .
description
Dryandra are evergreen shrubs and trees . The alternate, usually spirally arranged, leathery leaves on the branches are simple or composite. The leaf margins are usually serrated, rarely smooth.
The mostly cephalic inflorescences are composed of 15 to 250 individual flowers. The hermaphrodite, four-fold flowers are radial symmetry to zygomorphic . There is only one circle with four free, cream-colored to yellow bracts . There is only one circle with four free stamens . There is only one upper carpel in each flower. The follicles are woody and contain only two seeds. The winged seeds are carried away by the wind.
Systematics
The botanical genus name honors the Swedish botanist Jonas Dryander (1748–1810). According to some authors, these species belong to the genus Banksia , the most important publication is AR Mast & K. Thiele: The transfer of Dryandra R.Br. to Banksia Lf (Proteaceae) , In: Australian Systematic Botany , Volume 20, 2007, doi : 10.1071 / SB06016 followed by for example APNI and GRIN.
95 species belong to the genus Dryandra . For historical reasons, here is the division of the genus into three sub-genres and some series according to Alex S. George 1996, this is different today according to Mast & Thiele 2007:
