Philo Hall (born December 31, 1865 in Wilton , Waseca County , Minnesota , † October 7, 1938 in Brookings , South Dakota ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1909 he represented the first constituency of the state of South Dakota in the US House of Representatives .

Early years and political advancement

Philo Hall attended public schools in his home country. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1887, he began to work in this profession in Brookings. From 1892 to 1898 he was a district attorney in Brookings County . Hall became a member of the Republican Party and was a member of the South Dakota Senate between 1901 and 1903 . Between 1902 and 1906 he served as Attorney General of the state.

Hall in the US Congress

In the congressional elections of 1906 he was nominated by his party against incumbent Charles H. Burke and elected to the US House of Representatives. There he represented the first constituency of his state between March 4, 1907 and March 3, 1909. In the run-up to the elections in 1908, he was defeated by his predecessor Burke in the nomination of his party. With that, his seat in Congress fell back to Burke. After his time in Washington, DC , Hall returned to practice as a lawyer. In 1923 he was a delegate to the Republican Congress in South Dakota. Philo Hall died in October 1938.
