Theodore B. Werner

Theodore B. Werner (born June 2, 1892 in Ossian , Winneshiek County , Iowa , † January 24, 1989 in Rapid City , South Dakota ) was an American politician.

Werner moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1909. There he worked in the newspaper and printing trade and had been editor and publisher of the Gate City Guide since 1912 . From 1915 to 1923 Werner was director of a Rapid City post office. In 1929 and 1930 he held the office of mayor of the city.

After Werner had run unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Representatives in the United States in 1930 , he succeeded in the next election, however , to be elected to Congress . There the Democrat represented the state of South Dakota from March 4, 1933 to January 3, 1937 . In the 1936 elections he was defeated by the Republican Francis H. Case . Werner then went back to working in the newspaper industry and retired in 1965.
