Clint Ronald Roberts (born January 30, 1935 in Presho , Lyman County , South Dakota - † February 13, 2017 in Pierre , South Dakota) was an American politician . Between 1981 and 1983 he represented the second constituency of the state of South Dakota in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Clint Roberts attended public schools in his home country. In 1952, he graduated from Presho High School . He then studied at Black Hills State College in Spearfish until 1953 . In the following years he worked as a farmer and rancher. He was also the owner of a clothing store.

Political career

Roberts became a member of the Republican Party . From 1972 to 1978 he was a member of the South Dakota Senate . In 1978 and again in 1986 he unsuccessfully applied for the post of governor of South Dakota. Between 1979 and 1980 he was Minister of Agriculture in his home state.

In 1980 Roberts was elected to the US House of Representatives in the Second Constituency of South Dakota. There he replaced James Abdnor on January 3, 1981 , who moved to the US Senate . Roberts could only serve one term in Congress . He was the last MP in the second constituency of South Dakota: when the seats in Congress were redistributed, the latter was abolished. Roberts then ran in 1982 for the only remaining constituency of South Dakota for another term, but was defeated by Tom Daschle , the candidate of the Democratic Party . Between 1987 and 1989, Clint Roberts headed the South Dakota Energy Office . Roberts last lived in his native Presho.
