The station opened on May 1, 1883, when the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR; predecessor of today's District Line ) opened the line between Acton Town and Hounslow Town . From 1903 the line was electrified, on June 13, 1905 electric trains started running.

On January 9, 1933, trains of the Piccadilly Line also ran this section for the first time, but initially did not stop in South Ealing. This was not the case until April 29, 1935. Since October 9, 1964, only the Piccadilly Line operates on the section west of Acton Town, as the District Line was shortened. In 2006 the platforms were extensively renovated.
