Underground stations in Hounslow

Hounslow Town is a former London Underground station . It was opened on May 1, 1883 under the name Hounslow , as the terminus of a route of the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR; predecessor of today's District Line ), which led from Acton Town here. The line should originally have been built further in the direction of Twickenham , but the London and South Western Railway (L & SWR) successfully fought against the intrusion of the MDR into their own "territory".

The line was to the new terminus at July 21, 1884 Hounslow Barracks (now Hounslow West ) extended to the railhead Hounslow (now in Hounslow Town renamed) was now at the end of a short branch line. The single-track branch to Hounslow Barracks was first used by a shuttle train that ran from Osterley & Spring Grove . On March 31, 1886, the MDR closed the station and gave up the shuttle service. All trains now ran directly from Acton Town. As a replacement, the Heston-Hounslow station (now Hounslow Central ), which was closer to the center, was built.

The station was reopened on March 1, 1903, when the MDR took over operations that had previously been carried out in cooperation with the L & SWR. However, the MDR finally shut down the branch line on May 1, 1909. The station building was demolished after the closure and replaced by a bus garage, which existed until 1954. A new station called Hounslow East was built around 300 meters to the north .
