history

The opening of the Osterley & Spring Grove station took place on May 1, 1883, when the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR; predecessor of the District Line ) opened the line between Acton Town and Hounslow Town . After the opening of the branch line towards Hounslow Barracks (now Hounslow West ) on July 21, 1884, a shuttle train ran from Osterley & Spring Grove to Hounslow Town. Its operation ended on March 31, 1886, but was resumed on March 1, 1903. After electrification was completed on June 13, 1905, all trains no longer ran directly to Hounslow Barracks, but turned in the Hounslow Town terminus until the direct line reopened on May 2, 1909.

Underground stations in Hounslow

After trains on the Piccadilly Line also ran the route to Hounslow West from March 13, 1933, the station gradually reached its capacity limits. London Underground decided to build a new building around 250 meters to the west. This was built according to plans by Charles Holden and was opened on March 25, 1934 under the name Osterley . Since October 9, 1964, only the Piccadilly Line operates on the section west of Acton Town, as the District Line was shortened.

The facilities at the original location on Thornbury Road remained largely intact until 1957, when the stairs and platforms were removed. The station building, however, was preserved and is now used as a second-hand bookstore.
