Coordinates: 31 ° 59 ′  S , 115 ° 51 ′  E The City of South Perth is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . South Perth belongs to the metropolis of Perth , the capital of Western Australia. The area is 20 km² and has about 42,000 inhabitants (2016).

South Perth is located on a peninsula at the confluence of the Swan and Canning Rivers south of central Perth, which is about one to ten kilometers away. The seat of the City Council is in the district of South Perth, where around 12,000 people live (2016).

The South Perth Council has 13 members, twelve councilors are elected by the residents of the six wards (two each from Civic, Como Beach, Manning, McDougall, Mill Point and Moresby Ward). The mayor (mayor) and council chairman is also elected by all residents of the city.
