Southwind was an American country rock band that existed from 1967 to 1971.

history

John Martin (guitar, vocals), Jim Pulte (bass, vocals), Phil Hope (keyboards) and Eric Dalton (drums) formed the rockabilly band "The Disciples" at the University of Oklahoma . In 1967 they went to Los Angeles , renamed themselves "Southwind" and expanded their musical style to include elements from pop , psychedelic rock and country .

In 1968 her debut album Southwind was released . Fontaine Brown replaced Phil Hope on keyboards. In 1970 the second album Ready to Ride was released , partly recorded live at the Fillmore West . The third album What a Strange Place to Land from 1971 showed stronger blues influences. Shortly after the album was released, the band broke up.

From then on, John Martin called himself Moon Martin and worked for Linda Ronstadt , recorded a number of solo albums and wrote the hit Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) for Robert Palmer .
