Julius Ferdinand Räbiger

Julius Ferdinand Räbiger or Raebiger (born April 20, 1811 in Lohsa , † November 18, 1891 in Breslau ) was a German Lutheran theologian and university professor .

Life

Räbiger attended the Bautzen grammar school . He then studied philosophy and theology from 1829 at the University of Leipzig and from 1831 at the University of Breslau . After graduation, he worked a long time as a tutor before November 18, 1836 the dissertation Ethice Liborum Apocryphorum Veteris Testamenti in Wroclaw for Dr. phil. received his doctorate . On February 17, 1838, the doctorate to Lic. Theol. and immediately afterwards the habilitation at the theological faculty. From 1838 until his death he finally lectured at the University of Breslau.

Räbiger rose to associate professor in 1847 . From 1849 to 1851 he was the editor of the Silesian magazine for Protestant church fellowship . Since Minister Karl Otto von Raumer felt attacked by the magazine , he was transferred from 1851 to 1853 as a research assistant to the University Library in Breslau . The theological faculty honored him in 1853 with an honorary doctorate ( Dr. theol. Hc ). Through the intercession of the Minister Moritz August von Bethmann-Hollweg , he received a full professorship in October 1859 .

Räbiger was rector of the University of Wroclaw in the academic year 1869/1870 . He was also elected city councilor for over 25 years .
