Soviet Memorial (Berlin Book)
The Soviet War Memorial Buch is located in the Buch district of the same name in the Berlin district of Pankow . It commemorates the Red Army soldiers who died in the area during the Battle of Berlin in April 1945 .
By order of the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SMAD), the monument was erected in 1947–1948 based on a design by Johann Tenne . Substructure, pedestal and pyramids - Obelisk are at early classical remind designs and thus find their place in the architecture of the neighboring bird castle park.
Originally intended as a memorial and tomb, it has continued to serve as a memorial since the dead were moved to the Soviet memorial in Schönholzer Heide . In the 1990s, the ensemble was renovated by the State of Berlin for 60,000 DM.
The memorial stands in the old village center on a delimited part of the castle park with the restored Buch castle church . Wiltbergstrasse runs right next to it. The Berlin-Buch train station of the S-Bahn is 150 meters away .
