The Soyuz-17 Cliff ( English ; Russian Утёз Союз-17 Utjos Sojus 17 , German 'Soyuz-17-Kliff' ) is a 500 m high and 5.5 km long cliff in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . In the Cook Mountains it rises 6 km west-northwest of Cape Murray on the north flank of the Carlyon Glacier .
Soviet scientists named it after the Soyuz 17 spacecraft launched on January 17, 1975 . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian designation into English in 2000.
