Social and cultural society of Germans in Opole Silesia

The Social-Cultural Society of Germans in Opole Silesia ( SKGD ) is an organization of the German minority in the Opole Voivodeship and the Powiat Lubliniecki in the Silesian Voivodeship .

Structures and activities

The SKGD is the largest and most important organization of the German minority in Upper Silesia ; she is a member of the Association of German Social-Cultural Societies in Poland (VdG) . The SKDG includes 330 German Friendship Groups (DFK); these are local local groups or community groups. The SKGD had around 170,000 members in 2006/2007.

The tasks of the social-cultural society include strengthening the cultural life of the German minority and promoting German-language education and social institutions.

history

The SKGD was founded in 1989 at the time of political change and officially registered in 1990. At that time, the SKGD had around 180,000 members. In 2004, the Social-Cultural Society of Germans in Opole Silesia, registered in January 1990 and previously independent, with its seat in Rosenberg (formerly the Social-Cultural Society of the Population of German Descent in the Czestochowa Voivodeship ) was incorporated into the SKGD.
