Association of German Social-Cultural Societies in Poland

The Association of German Social-Cultural Societies in Poland (abbreviated: VdG ) is the umbrella organization of the German minority in Poland with its seat in Opole . The association is a member of the Federal Union of European Nationalities and has over 200,000 members.

history

After several German companies were founded after the political change in Poland and merged to form district organizations in 1990, they decided at a joint meeting on September 15, 1990 in Wroclaw to form a central council. This should represent the interests of the minority before the German as well as the Polish government. The first office of the council was in Strzelce Opolskie (Groß Strehlitz).

On August 27, 1991 the Association of Social-Cultural Societies was registered.

On May 11th, 2009 the new eight-member board of the association was elected. The 50-year-old Bernard Gaida was elected chairman for the first time. On December 7, 2013 the VdG elected a new board, Gaida was re-elected chairman. On May 30, 2014, the German Association for Reconciliation and the Future became a member of the VdG. The new member was previously independent and competed with the German Friendship Circle in the Silesian district.

activities

The VdG also meets with the associations of German minorities abroad, such as the Czech Republic and Denmark, but also with other minorities, such as the Sorbs in Germany and the Belarusian minority in Poland, in order to exchange ideas about the association's work and its successes. But meetings with the CDU and the Junge Union also take place.

The VdG organizes various festivals, such as the cultural festival of the German minority in Poland , the German culture days in Opole and the like. a.
