Social situation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Social situation relates to the quality of life and the life opportunities ( equal opportunities ) of population groups . Various factors such as occupation , income , education , job security , residential area , leisure time and integration into society are taken into account.

Concepts

In inequality research, in addition to traditional vertical inequality classifications according to occupational position, situation models also describe horizontal inequalities such as gender, age (older or younger than 60 years) and origin (East / West Germany). They expand the stratum and class analysis for multi-dimensional inequality research of a social structure .

The German sociologist Stefan Hradil emerged from 1983 as theoretician of the concept of social conditions.

In 1989, the German sociologist Wolfgang Zapf and his team used the situation model in welfare research. In addition to the vertical class criterion of occupational status, gender, age and region were used as an examination criterion. His question was what material resources and what level of life satisfaction would be found in the identified social situations. The combination of the four characteristics resulted in 64 social situations, which enable a differentiated view of the population in Germany. With images of the social situation, it becomes clear that the attempt to depict the diversity has reached its limits.
