Socialist marriage
The Socialist marriage was since the 1950 years in the GDR as an alternative to religious ceremony propagated. The marriage ceremony was a ceremony in accordance with the regulation on marriage and dissolution (GBl, p. 849 of November 24, 1955), which was carried out by the "commissioners for civil status " (= registrars ) according to a certain rite. Initially, the civil wedding took place in a cultural center or in the business of the spouse (address by the manager or party secretary , gifts, choir). Members of the armed forcesshould always wear a uniform. After the wedding, the bride and groom visited a memorial or memorial for the fallen Soviet soldiers, where they laid the bridal bouquet as a sign of solidarity and loyalty to the state.
In contrast to the youth consecration , which has established itself as a humanistically shaped non-church rite of passage to this day, the socialist marriage was not widely used.
