Maike Wetzel (born September 29, 1974 in Groß-Gerau ) is a German writer , filmmaker and screenwriter .

Life

Maike Wetzel studied directing at the Munich Film School and with a DAAD scholarship in Great Britain and made several short films and reports as a director and screenwriter . She lives in Berlin .

In addition to narrative prose, Maike Wetzel writes screenplays for movies as well as journalistic articles, etc. a. for “Zeit” and “ FAZ ”. Wetzel was a laureate of the meeting of young authors in 1993 and received a. a. 1997 an award at the Bettina-von-Arnim-Preis , 1999 the Allegra-Literaturpreis , 2000 the advancement award for literature of the Free State of Bavaria , 2005 a grant from the Foreign Office for the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles, 2000 the residence grant from the Literary Colloquium Berlin and 2006 the Gerhard Beier Prize . In 2010 she was the town clerk of a project funded by the “German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe” in Pécs, the 2010 Capital of Culture, and kept a blog for five months , which was also translated into Hungarian.

After two stories shortly after the turn of the millennium, her first novel came out in 2018. Elly , the novel about a disappearing girl and the desperate family about it, was criticized in the FAZ that the author does not trust herself and explains too much.

Her books have appeared in the English translation by Lyn Marven as LONG DAYS by Comma Press, Manchester and in the Hungarian translation by Timea Pénzes as MÁMOR by Ab-Art, Bratislava. Individual stories appeared in Korean, French, Russian, Italian, Danish, Czech, Polish, and Serbian.
