Socialist parliamentary bloc

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bloque Parlamentario Socialista ( German  " Socialist Parliamentary Block " ) is a parliamentary faction in the Venezuelan parliament. The Bloque Parlamentario Socialista was founded on August 1, 2017 by the parliamentarians Germán Ferrer , Ivonne Téllez and Eustoquio Contreras of the PSUV ( German  " Socialist Unity Party of Venezuela " ) in opposition to the abolition of constitutionality by the executive and de-facto judiciary .

Context of the formation of the parliamentary group

Since an alliance of opposition parties won a two-thirds majority in the parliamentary elections in 2015 , it has been blocked by the executive and dependent judiciary. Most of the parliamentarians in the Gran Polo Patriótico government block are boycotting parliament because they are in the minority.

When Nicolás Maduro unilaterally convened an "omnipotent" constituent assembly in the context of the protests against the disempowerment of the parliament in Venezuela in the summer of 2017 in order to eliminate the parliament and the public prosecutor's office, Germán Ferrer, Ivonne Téllez and Eustoquio founded Contreras in protest against the evacuation constitutionally an independent socialist parliamentary group. The reintegration of the parliamentarians of the PSUV into parliament represents a break with the government.

Together with the public prosecutor's office under Luisa Ortega Díaz , the parliament thus stood behind the Venezuelan constitution of 1999 in a non-partisan and cross-factional manner .

Government reprisals

Shortly after the establishment of an independent socialist parliamentary group, the constituent assembly withdrew parliamentarian Germán Ferrer from parliamentary immunity . As a result, the parliamentarian of the Bloque Parlamentario Socialista Germán Ferrer fled to Colombia on August 18, 2017 with the de-jure prosecutor Luisa Ortega Díaz (his wife) and two other companions (an employee of Ortega and the former anti-corruption lawyer Arturo Vilar Esteves ) . They took a speedboat from the Paraguaná peninsula to Aruba, 27 kilometers away, and then flew from Aruba airport on a Colombian charter plane to Bogotá airport , where they were received by the local migration authorities and applied for political asylum.
