Socialist active

In the GDR, the socialist active was a "form of organization to involve the working people in solving social, economic and cultural tasks". There were party activists at the grassroots level, union activists or innovators in the factories; Active parents participated in the schools.

Its members, the activists , received training or further education in activist schools. Particularly active activists in the business world were portrayed as role models who exceeded labor standards, encouraged operational improvements or made inventions. They have been awarded titles such as “ Hero of Labor ”, “ Activist of the Seven Year Plan ” or “ Honored Activist ”.

The preservation of monuments on site, often just a backup or building rescue, was usually done by members of the local heritage preservation group .
