Social Insurance Court of Basel-Stadt

The Social Insurance Court of Basel-Stadt is a court based in Basel that judges claims in the area of social insurance law . It started its work in April 2002.

This is the cantonal insurance court in accordance with the federal law on the general part of social security law.

Duration

The Social Insurance Court consists of three praesidia and fifteen judges. The praesidia are elected by the voters of the canton according to the principle of an absolute majority (majority procedure). The fifteen judges are chosen by the Grand Council.

  • Judges: Dora Borer, Mia Fuchs, Peter Kaderli, Manuel Kreis, Peter von Aarburg, Christoph Karli, Anina Lesmann, Christian Müller, Monika Prack Hoenen, Willi Rühl, Ruth Schnyder, Margareth Spöndlin, Philippe Waegeli and Tiziana Conti.

The presidents each preside over a chamber. The chambers always meet in a three-person cast.

Responsibilities and authority

The court is responsible for assessing disputes from all branches of social security law as well as legal disputes under private law arising from supplementary insurance to social health insurance . Appeals against judgments of the Social Insurance Court can be lodged with the Federal Supreme Court . The social security court is supervised by the appellate court .
