The SpVgg Deggendorf was a sports club from the Lower Bavarian district town of Deggendorf .

history

SpVgg Deggendorf was founded in February 1920. In 1946 the club became Lower Bavarian Cup champions for the first time. After Max Thoma took over the management of the club in 1949, the club's greatest successes came about. 1952/53 the team was under coach Ludwig Stiglbauer champions of the II. Amateur League Niederbayern and rose to the 1st Amateur League South Bavaria , which - interrupted by relegation - belonged for a total of eight seasons. In the 1958/59 season, the club played among the last 16 teams in southern Germany in the DFB Cup , but then lost 3-2 to Bayern Munich in February 1959 . In the same year, SpVgg won the Lower Bavarian Cup for the second time.

In 1963 the club qualified for the newly created national league . But he could not keep up with the sporting level and was relegated in the first year. Only after the rise in 1972 succeeded in establishing itself in the national league. Up until 1983 they played in fourth class for eleven years. After two further promotions to the national league in 1988 and 1993, each of which lasted only one season, the sporting decline began, which caused the SpVgg to slip into the B-class.

A new management team, supported by the Deggendorf company Stangl, put together a competitive team. They continuously led the team back into the upper leagues of Lower Bavaria, and in 2003 they even returned to the state league.

At the beginning of 2003, the boards of directors of SpVgg Deggendorf and SV Grün-Weiß Deggendorf started negotiations on the merger. After approval by the members of the two associations, SpVgg Grün-Weiß Deggendorf was founded on April 30, 2003 .
