Space Command was the first Canadian science fiction television series and was broadcast live from the CBC studio in Toronto in 1953/54 in the English-speaking area of the country . The model was the American series Captain Video and His Video Rangers . With the exception of one episode, the series is considered lost , although the live broadcasts were recorded using a kinescope . One of the main characters was James Doohan . Allegedly William Shatner appeared in several episodes, but this is not certain.
action
The spaceship XSW1 , crew Captain Steve Cassel, Phil Mitchell and Frank Anderson, explores the solar system in search of extraterrestrial intelligences . It is subordinate to the Space Command under the direction of Dr. Joseph Edmunds, who is assisted by the radio operator Ilene Morris.
Documentary film recordings of an Avro Vulcan and a rocket are mounted in the credits .
Lore
Apparently only one episode has survived. It is believed that the remaining kinescope recordings, probably 16 mm film material , were destroyed for silver extraction in the early 1970s .
