Barry Morse
Barry Morse (born June 10, 1918 in Shoreditch as Herbert Morse , † February 2, 2008 in London ) was a British theater and film actor .
Life
Born in London's East End , his career began when he won a Royal Academy of Dramatic Art scholarship at the age of 15 . Actress Dame Sybil Thorndike took special notice of his skills and made many appearances across the UK. Morse appeared on the BBC's first live television broadcasts in the late 1930s.
He moved to Canada in the early 1950s and worked as an actor in various theaters, on CBC Radio and CBC-TV . He was best known for his role as Lt. Gerard in the television series The Fugitive ( The Fugitive ). Barry Morse played the role of the policeman so convincingly that many viewers took his role so seriously that they sent him hundreds of malicious letters asking him to Dr. Leave Kimble alone. In 1975 he played the role of Professor Bergman in the British television series Space: 1999 ( Moon Base Alpha 1 ). Although he only appeared in the first season, Morse is still very popular with fan circles today.
In 1945 he spoke for the BBC in one of the famous Paul Temple radio plays by Francis Durbridge, the role of the title hero, namely in the multi-part Send for Paul Temple again with Marjorie Westbury as Steve at his side. The content of the radio play corresponded to the later remake Paul Temple and the case of Alex , only the villain's name was still Rex.
Barry Morse has played more than 3000 roles in theater, television and radio and was active until 2007. His career spanned seven decades.
