A spaghetti measuring device , also known as a spaghetti scoop , is a kitchen appliance with which people inexperienced in cooking can determine a desired amount of spaghetti without scales before cooking . Names such as pasta measure and noodle scoop are misleading because the spaghetti measure is not suitable for other pasta or noodle types.

Since industrially produced spaghetti usually have approximately the same length and a similar diameter, it is sufficient to determine the cross-section of a bundle of spaghetti. The result is imprecise, but sufficient for practical purposes. For oversized spaghetti, the measure only shows about half of the actual weight.

All spaghetti measures assume a requirement of around 100 grams of spaghetti per person, without distinguishing between main course and side dish or going into eating habits. Weighing the portions is therefore easier and also suitable for all types of pasta.

There are different designs and types:

  • Some models are made of metal or wooden sticks or discs with holes of different sizes, through the size of which is appropriate for the number of guests, so much spaghetti is inserted that they completely fill the cross-section of the hole. Usually there are four holes that symbolize between one and four servings. The slices can sometimes also be used as trivets.
  • Other models have an adjustable aperture for portioning.
  • There are also rings, for example made of olive wood , which also represent the size of one to four servings.
  • In other models, the spaghetti is placed in a hook and the amount can be read off on a scale.
  • In many cases, spaghetti servers have a hole in the middle, which also serves as a spaghetti measure.
