Gap valley

Ravnedalen

Rift valleys are a typical form of Bornholm's terrain . They are characterized by steep side walls and mostly lush vegetation . As they were largely unsuitable for arable farming , they are mostly still in their natural state.

Emergence

Fissures in the subsurface, which were created by the cooling of the volcanic rocks, were widened and deepened by erosion during and after the Ice Age .

There are around 70 such cleft valleys on Bornholm, the best known of which is the Ekkodalen ( Echotal ).
