Asparagus wine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a fermented drink made from asparagus, asparagus wine only exists in historical fiction . Today, asparagus wine is used to describe white wine , which is recognized as being particularly suitable for enjoying asparagus .

Wine made from asparagus

In his "unhistorical historical comedy" Romulus der Grosse (1948/49) Friedrich Dürrenmatt has the protagonist Romulus drink asparagus wine over and over again - this is a fermented asparagus drink, as in the "Ten Paragraphs on Romulus the Great ", written in 1949 for the program of the premiere at the Stadttheater Basel shows :

§ 10 Asparagus wine was made from asparagus roots.

However, evidence that this drink is more than a historical fiction by Dürrenmatt has not yet been provided. The assertion in the paragraph is meant ironically .

Wine with asparagus

In 1998 the Austrian Wine Marketing Company (ÖWM) introduced the official designation "Selection of Asparagus Wine", which has since been used to award selected white wines that should go particularly well with asparagus dishes. Classically grown, dry white wines with a maximum of 13.5% ABV are allowed to participate in the selection .
