The Sparkasse Hartberg-Vorau AG was a Styrian banking company based in Hartberg and part of the savings bank group in Austria . It was created in 1858 as a community savings bank. The Sparkasse was a member of the Cooperation and Liability Association of the Austrian Savings Banks and the Austrian Savings Bank Association and merged with Steiermärkische Sparkasse on September 26, 2010 .

Founding history

As early as 1841 there was a cash register in Hartberg that accepted deposits and granted loans. It was only when independent administrative bodies were set up that it was also possible to found a savings bank in Hartberg. The community had agreed to assume liability for more than 40,000 guilders, and so at the end of December 1854 a permit from the authorities followed. After the municipality had managed to reduce its liability to 10,000 guilders, the Ministry of the Interior approved it at the beginning of November 1858. This is also the date when it was founded and opened.

Structural development of the main institute

In 1858, the Sparkasse was the first financial institute in the whole of Eastern Styria to begin business operations in rented rooms in the town hall. In 1892 the building of the Sparkassenhaus in Herrengasse took place, which met the requirements of business operations until the 1970s. The ongoing business expansion required a new building for the main institute in 1975. The new building at Sparkassenplatz was moved into on December 8, 1977. Since then, the second and third floors have been converted into office space and the customer center has been modernized. The building is now used on five floors.

Important events

In 1943 there was a merger with Sparkasse Friedberg, and in 1976 it merged with Sparkasse Vorau to form Sparkasse Hartberg-Vorau. A year earlier, the former Reininghaus beer depot had been bought for the construction of the main facility. In 1983 the Sparkasse celebrated its 125th anniversary. Renovations followed in 1989 when the attic was expanded to accommodate office space and one year later when the cashier was converted into a customer center and modernized. Further structural expansions took place in 2002, when the premises of the main institute were expanded after apartments were vacated and a training and meeting room was added at the same time. Steiermärkische Bank- und Sparkassen-AG has been a one hundred percent shareholder since September 2005.

Non-profit projects / sponsoring

Between 1900 and 1950, the savings bank bought a residential building (foundation house) for the community and made dedications for the construction of two schools. In 1991 the construction of the pedestrian zone and the design of the main square in Hartberg were supported. Two years later, the Sparkasse made a contribution to the revitalization of Hartberg Castle. Support was also given to the Hartberger Gmoos nature reserve in 1995 , to the Rochus Park with Sparkassenbrücke in 1998, and the renovation of the Hartberg town hall in the following year. From 2000, the Sparkasse contributed to the Hartberg Ökopark, where exhibitions and various environmentally friendly projects take place, as well as to the Maxoom large format cinema in the Öko-Park (2002). In 2003 she financed the access to the “Hatric” shopping center in Hartberg for the development of the properties and, in some cases, the purchase of properties. In the same year an ambulance was bought for the Austrian Red Cross. A year later, the Sparkasse supported the integration center of Lebenshilfe Hartberg. In 2008 an ambulance was purchased for the Austrian Red Cross and support was given in the purchase of a district youth vehicle for the volunteer fire brigade , as well as in 2009 the purchase of an emergency medical vehicle (stationed in Vorau) to complete the emergency medical system in the Hartberg district.
