Spechtritzmühle, 1902

The Spechtritzmühle was a water-powered grain mill with a sawmill on the Rote Weißeritz in the Rabenauer Grund . It was located at the eastern end of Spechtritz at the stop of the Weißeritztalbahn built in 1882 , southwest of Rabenau in Saxony .

history

The first documentary mention dates back to 1562 and describes the mill system with three grinding courses and a board mill . More buildings were added later. At times an oil mill was operated and a half-hoofed estate with stables and barns was built, and ponds were created for an extensive fishing industry. From 1831 there was a bar and brandy license, which was followed in 1845 by a slaughter and baking license. In 1885 the bakery was given up and the grinding operation stopped. The Gasthaus Spechtritzmühle has become a popular destination for hikers in the Rabenauer Grund. The outbuildings housed an upholstered frame factory from 1885 to 1905, then a trout rearing station until the 1960s.

In 1990 the restaurant was closed and the listed complex was secured and boarded up.

After the buildings were badly damaged during the flood of the century in August 2002 , some of the buildings were demolished in the course of the reconstruction of the Weißeritztalbahn in 2008. In March 2009, due to the risk of collapse, all remaining buildings of the Spechtritzmühle were demolished, after which the renaturation of the site began.
